Speaking Out for Housing Equality

Posted on

The JONAH Affordable Housing Task Force is asking for support for the creation of the  “Housing Opportunities Commission” to ensure equal housing opportunities for all.  Join them in speaking up.

WHAT: City Council Public Hearing to support the “Housing Opportunities Commission”

PLEASE SEE: The Ordinance establishing this Commission, p.129-132: https://www.eauclairewi.gov/Home/ShowDocument?id=28395 See p.130 for “Purpose and Intent” & p.131: Composition (community stakeholders) & Duties and Responsibilities

WHEN: Monday, 1/27, 7pm
WHERE: Eau Claire City Hall, 203 S. Farwell (park and enter in back; follow signs for City Council Chambers)

HOW:
#1 We hope you will join us to speak up to 5 minutes (try to keep at 3 minutes); the following is a basic “script” to use and adapt, adding your own words, personal story or comments:

  • First: You will be asked to give your name and address
  • Start with, “I am here to support the Ordinance creating the ‘Housing Opportunities Commission’. Every resident in Eau Claire knows someone who is housing insecure”.
  • Then, share your own personal story or comments relevant to the need for a Commission that focuses on affordable housing in our community.
  • At the end: This stakeholder Commission will help guide the City in creating more affordable housing. We say in JONAH: Those closest to the problem are closest to the solution.

#2 If you are not able to appear in person to speak, please send an email to: Scott Allen, Community Development Director, Scott.Allen@eauclairewi.gov, and ask him to distribute your email to all City Council members before the 1/27 Public Hearing at 7pm.

Please ask friends and neighbors to join on the 27th and thank you for your support in the best interest of all of our neighbors in Eau Claire. Contact the chairs of the JONAH Affordable Housing Task Force with any questions: Susan Wolfgram (wolfgram.susanm@gmail.com) or Judi Mosely (moseleyjudi@gmail.com)
