A Proclamation

By the JONAH Religious Leaders

In these challenging times for our nation, we, the diverse faith communities and advocates of JONAH, join together to affirm our enduring commitment to creating a more just, compassionate, and equitable society for all people across the Chippewa Valley and Wisconsin.

OUR AFFIRMATIONS

We affirm that every person possesses inherent dignity and worth, regardless of race, gender, faith tradition, economic status, national origin, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of identity.

We affirm that true democracy requires the voices of all people to be heard and valued, especially those who have been historically marginalized.

We affirm that our varied faith traditions, while distinct in practice, unite in calling us to pursue justice, practice mercy and love, and walk humbly with one another.

OUR CONCERNS

In the current political climate, we witness with deep concern:

  • The growing polarization that has fractured communities and families
  • The persistence of systemic racism and economic inequality
  • The dehumanizing rhetoric that targets vulnerable populations
  • The prioritization of political power over human needs
  • The erosion of trust in democratic institutions and processes

We specifically affirm our unwavering support for the following, while noting that our list of vulnerable populations is incomplete:

  • Our immigrant and refugee neighbors who contribute immeasurably to our communities while often being scapegoated, criminalized, and denied pathways to security and belonging
  • Transgender individuals whose basic human rights, dignity, and very existence are increasingly under attack through harmful legislation and rhetoric
  • People living through war who face unimaginable suffering, displacement, and trauma in conflicts around the world

OUR COMMITMENTS

Therefore, we commit ourselves to:

Build Bridges, Not Walls: We will foster dialogue across differences, creating spaces where diverse perspectives can be shared with respect and dignity.

Amplify Marginalized Voices: We will continue our work to ensure that those most affected by injustice have platforms to speak their truth and shape policies that impact their lives.

Advocate for Transformative Justice: We will work toward a justice system that prioritizes restoration, rehabilitation, and community well-being over punishment and incarceration.

Pursue Economic Dignity: We will advocate for living wages, affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and other economic policies that reflect the worth of every person.

Protect Democratic Participation: We will defend and expand voting rights, civic education, and meaningful participation in our democratic processes.

OUR INVITATION

We invite all people of goodwill—regardless of political affiliation, faith tradition, or background—to join us in this sacred work of healing divisions, protecting human dignity, and building communities where justice and compassion prevail.

In times of division, we choose unity. In times of fear, we choose courage. In times of despair, we choose hope. In times that call for action, we choose to be united.

For the Wisconsin we believe is possible,
The JONAH Religious Leaders
