Keep the Momentum Going: Use the WISDOM Priorities Book to Influence the State Budget

JONAH is thrilled to share WISDOM’s Priorities Book for 2025–2027, a critical roadmap that outlines our shared vision for justice, equity, and community transformation in Wisconsin.

From racial and environmental justice to criminal justice reform, immigrant rights, and more, this publication reflects the voices of communities across the state. It’s not just a document; it’s a tool. And it’s meant to be used!

We encourage every member of our community to read it, share it, and most importantly, use it as a powerful advocacy guide when reaching out to your legislators and the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee (JFC). Whether you’re having one-on-one conversations, writing emails, or speaking at public hearings, WISDOM’s Priorities Book is full of talking points that connect values to action.

You’ll find JONAH’s highlights on page 15 of the booklet. Whether you’re a longtime advocate or newly engaged, this is your invitation to take action.

Madison Action Day Showed What’s Possible

On April 10, hundreds of advocates gathered at the Capitol for Madison Action Day (MAD), WISDOM’s statewide day of action. JONAH was proud to be there, using the Priorities Book to speak directly with lawmakers. It was a powerful reminder that when we show up together, we make an impact.

Here’s what participants said they loved most about the day:

  • “The diversity of people from different parts of the state and different walks of life.”
  • “The opportunity for collective action in a well-organized, safe way.”
  • “Meeting so many great people. Nice, comfortable bus.”
  • “Being in the Capitol and being heard there. Also, the Raging Grannies.”
  • “Phenomenal level of organization.”
  • “Doing this work together.”

But our work didn’t end with Madison Action Day. It’s crucial that we keep the momentum going.

Speak Up: Influence the 2025–2027 State Budget

The Joint Finance Committee (JFC) held hearings across the state to gather input on the upcoming state budget throughout April. Even if you weren’t able to attend a JFC listening session or Madison Action Day, your voice still matters. You can email your comments directly to: [email protected]

When you write or speak, consider sharing:

  1. What issue you care about and why it matters to you.
  2. Why the Joint Finance Committee should care.
  3. What action you want legislators to take.

If a legislator has supported your issue in the past, thank them—and ask them to do it again.

We’ve seen what we can accomplish when we come together. Let’s keep pushing forward.
