The Chippewa Valley Transit Alliance (CVTA) is a united voice for transit riders, bicyclists, and pedestrians in Eau Claire and neighboring counties of West Central Wisconsin.
The Problem JONAH Sees: There has been a pervasive privilege-based and unsustainable system of transit long fostered in and throughout the US. Public access and more environmentally-friendly infrastructure (public transit, bike-ability + access, etc.) has taken a backseat to a focus on single individual or family cars. That has created barriers against sustainable travel for all individuals and has limited access to safe and easy travel for low income people.
Mission: to provide leadership and advocacy for expanding public transit, and to make walking and biking safer in the Chippewa Valley. We believe that a more balanced transportation system can benefit people, the environment, and the economy.
Accomplishments + Highlights 2019:
- CVTA has applied for 501(c)3 status in order to receive tax-deductible donations and apply for grants in the coming years ahead, as we grow and challenge ourselves and our community to substantially improve transportation for all people.
- Through partner work with the WISDOM Transit Group and Mark Quam, Senator Jeff Smith is planning to introduce an RTA bill which would allow for the formation of a Regional Transit Authority.
- The Chippewa Valley Transit Alliance has been invited to become a member of a newly formed Statewide group called “Coalition for More Responsible Transportation” (CMRT).
- For Earth Day this past April, CVTA worked in conjunction with Eau Claire Transit to help provide free bus rides for the public on Earth Day
