Alcoholics Anonymous

By Terri Noel

Hello!

I am an active member of our AA community in the Chippewa Valley. A little background on AA: Alcoholics Anonymous is an organization that supports recovery from the disease of alcoholism. It is a 12 step program that includes sponsorship, reliance on a higher power, and service to others. I am also a member of a committee that reaches out to community businesses and organizations to provide AA resources. I have connected with the Mental Health Task Force and wanted to share some info that might be helpful. We have a strong AA community and offer 5-6 meetings every day. Some of these are virtual but most are in-person. We also have speaker meetings, conferences, and various social activities throughout the year. These events can be found on our district website. I think this program and its resources is very important in our community, considering the dangerous level of drinking and abuse of alcohol in our city and county.

In Eau Claire County, about 23.8% of adults are engaging in excessive drinking. This statistic places Eau Claire County as the 15th most drunk county in the United States, with a higher percentage of binge drinkers compared to both Wisconsin and the national average.

My name is Terri Noel and you can contact me by email if you have any questions about AA: noelterri@yahoo.com

We believe that making personal connections is the best way to spread the message of recovery and to offer hope.
