July 2026 Task Force Summary

Stay up to date about what each task force has been working on this summer. 

Voices United
Created a voter guide for the August 11 Primary Election.
Held a successful gubernatorial candidate watch party potluck.
Continued to collect postcards from the community to share with newly elected officials this fall. 
Working to develop educational resources for congregations to display and educate about various local justice issues.

Mental Health
Offered Buddy Bench conversations downtown to build connections and listen to passersby
Developed questions related to mental health to ask candidates seeking election. Input is still being accepted.

Fundraising Team
Outreach: made personal calls of gratitude to all sustaining members.
Began planning the 2027 Fundraiser Gala.
Coordinated congregation-based fundraising efforts like golf outings, special offerings, and events.

Environment
Advocating for and commenting on a proposed city compost ordinance and supporting community composting efforts.
Participating in Bee Haven celebration at Phoenix Park on August 24 from 5-7:30pm. 
Ongoing monthly sustainability series at the library with Air Quality as the topic for August. Check out the library website calendar for more information.
Received a grant of $5,000 from WI’s Office of Sustainability for Plastic Free EC to expand piloted restaurant program.

Immigration
Chippewa Valley Multicultural Festival is Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 11:30am-4:30pm. There will be performers, vendors, and cultural exhibits. 
Had a conversation with Eau Claire County Sheriff on immigration and ICE-related topics.
Wrote personal messages of welcome for newly arrived refugee families.

Transportation
Celebrated the end of the microtransit pilot program.
Continued talking about Regional Transit Authority legislation.

Affordable Housing
Collaborated with City Council to increase Flexible Housing Fund from $250,000 to $750,000 and lifting to a Level 1 Priority in Capital Improvement Budget.
Advocated and collaborated with City Council and staff for putting in anti-gentrification guardrails, “Equitable Development Principles”, in the RDA Riverbend and Core District Plans.
Organized events for the public 1) Meet the Tenant-Landlord Resource Center, and 2) Listening to local developers about how to build affordable. Another public event on repurposing buildings for housing will be held on October 8, 2026.
Presented at a local series at Lake Street Methodist Church called Stronger Together: Addressing Homelessness Locally (below).
