Practicing Loving-Kindness

A Buddhist Practice

The Loving-Kindness meditation, known as metta in the Buddhist tradition, is a practice of developing love for yourself and for others. This practice involves intentionally wishing for safety, wellness, and peace.

Try a few minutes of loving-kindness today!

Find a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths. Offer these wishes:

May I be safe.

May I be well.

May I know peace.

Think of someone you care about, and offer these wishes:

May you be safe.

May you be well.

May you know peace.

Think of someone you don’t know well, and offer these wishes:

May you be safe.

May you be well.

May you know peace.

Think of someone you disagree with or someone you find difficult, and offer these wishes:

May you be safe.

May you be well.

May you know peace.

Extend your wishes to the world, beyond the people you know:

May you be safe.

May you be well.

May you know peace.
